Memorability

Memorability can be a problem for performers. One hit wonders abound, and in most cases, people can’t remember their names when their hit song comes up. Memorability was never a problem for this artist, however. Barry Manilow is a living legend. From his song MANDY, which is a great song that you can’t really tell is about his dog, to COPACABANA, which is shown below in this video clip, Manilow’s versatility and incredible voice guarantee that he won’t be forgotten anytime soon. By the way, the person who put together the slide show for this song did a GREAT job!

Mandy is not a song about Barry’s dog or any other person’s dog. He didn’t write the song and it was originally titled Brandy when it was a minor hit in the UK. Scott English who originally recorded Brandy was awakened from a sound sleep before 7am by a reporter asking him who the song was about. English said his dog who he had sent away and then told the reporter to do the same, and that’s how that rumor about Mandy being about Barry’s dog got started.
