Happy Independence Day!

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Today being Independence Day, it seemed an appropriate time to break my long silence with an appropriate song. May God bless our troops, still out fighting for our freedom. I find it pathetic that so many people use that freedom to undermine the very individuals who have fought and died so that they can say what they are saying without fear of arrest. Someone famous once said that the United States was a country that wouldn’t need to be conquered because it would would destroy itself from within. That someone, unfortunately, appears to have been correct. But, for the real Americans out there, here is a great song from Lee Greenwood…

Go Tim!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Okay, once in a while a modern singer does something I like, and this song is it. DO YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT by Tim Magraw is the best country song I have heard in years. And let me tell you, it isn’t just the guys that wind up in that situation! I really hope everyone enjoys this one as much as I did!

Oh, yeah!

Some songs become popular because of the beat, some because of the singer, and there are just some songs that make it because the words really hit home. The following song has all of those… Lonestar is a great country band. The beat is “keep your feet tapping” country. But it’s the words that really hit home for a lot of folks. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. And, as a mother of four who gets distracted, I can assure you that the words are accurate. Pampers really DO melt in a Maytag dryer!

So there IS some good modern music!

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Ever so often, a more modern song catches my attention. There aren’t many, because to be honest, I am way too old and crotchety to like most of this modern noise. I have a particular dislike for rap, which I do not consider to BE music. But I find this song to be absolutely beautiful, and Randy Travis did an excellent job with it. If you haven’t already heard it, THREE WOODEN CROSSES is well worth the listen!

I am in shock over this one…

A passing today….

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

After a very successful career that spanned the better part of five decades, Robert Goulet passed away this morning while in the hospital awaiting a lung transplant. He was seventy three years old.

Today, we sadly note a passing….

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Yesterday, on Sunday, October 29, Porter Wagoner passed away. He was 80 years old.

Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002, he is best remembered for his flamboyant style and sad country songs. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1955. Not only did he give the world something very special with his own music and television show, he also gave the world a chance to hear the voice of the great country singer Dolly Parton.

From the Opry to Madison Square Garden, his performances made a difference in the lives of many, and his death, as a result of lung cancer, has silenced a great voice. He will be sorely missed.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, TWICE!

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Back in the seventies, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” was a movie. I do not recall all the stars, but the main role was played by Kristy McNichol. Tanya Tucker did an incredible job wit the original song, and I am displaying that one first.

Much later, in the nineties, Reba McEntire came along and, well, completely rewrote the entire sone. If you ask me, little moe than the title is the same. Taken as the same song, um, no. But, seen as completely different songs, they are both great. Here’s the one from Reba… you can decide for yourself.
