I don’t talk much about this on here, but my family lives in one of the Arkansas counties that President Bush just declared a disaster area about a month ago. His reasoning? Well, an EF5 tornado ripped through our county on February 5th, taking forty plus businesses and about eighty homes with it. And, although this tornado did kill people elsewhere, we were fortunate that no one from our county was killed, though there were a few injuries. One of the near death experiuences was my son in law, who was driving home in my minivan. Two miles from our house, the tornado picked up the van he was in, blew out all the windows but the windshield, and slammed the van down on a fence in a nearby field. Everything inside the van was lost, and the van will never run again. Amazingly enough, my son in law opened the door and walked away. He had a few minor cuts on his face, and because of that, he scared the heck out of the people in cars stopped on the road, but he is okay.
After all the shock, my first reaction was to call my insurance company. I have been paying for rather expensive Van Insurance for years, and I figured it was just about time it paid me back, considering. But guess what? After the sweet lady on the phone took my claim and assured me that they would get right on it, I had to wait two weeks for the decision letter. They turned me down, of course. Why? Well, the tornado is not classified as an accident. If my son in law had crashed the van, it would have been paid for. But because it was a tornado, we aren’;t covered. Fidures, doesn’t it?
